Jocelyn Freeman currently studies Piano Accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music and was one of the lucky three to be chosen to receive a bursary from the EMI Music Sound Foundation.
The bursary allowed Jocelyn to take her studies to a higher level and she is enjoying the course as it teaches her how to refine the way she produces sounds on the piano and interacts in chamber music.
Jocelyn has participated in accompaniment competitions including the Chelsea Schubert Festival and the Scott Huxley Competition where she was a finalist and awarded second place respectively. Jocelyns plans for the coming year include recitals with cello, voice and solo performances leading to a concerto in April. www.jocelynfreeman.co.uk
Roderick Morris
Studying Opera at the Royal Academy has given Roderick Morris many vocal opportunities including the performance of a selection of Mendelssohn songs at the Oxford and Chelsea Lieder Festivals as part of the Academys Song Circle Program. Roderick will also hold the title role Giulio Cesare in the Academys January opera scenes.
Studying at the Academy has meant that Roderick has benefitted from sessions with some of the UKs most exceptional teachers and he is looking forward to being able to immersive himself into this environment throughout the year.

The award went towards the purchase of a new Gibson J45 acoustic guitar, to use as a main performance and recording instrument. Jacks career in performing the blues has simply galloped ahead!
In July he was invited to take part in the massive Surrey music event Guilfest 2009. He performed a full set of acoustic blues to a large crowd, sharing the same bill as the legendary Brian Wilson and his band.
The following week, Jack performed at the Upton on Severn Blues Festival, where he played to a packed house. Other festival appearances including Worcester, Droitwich and Newark quickly followed during the summer months.
In early August Jack was invited to the studio of KFFA radio in Helena, Arkansas USA to appear on the worlds longest running blues radio show The King Biscuit Flour Hour. The long serving host Sunshine Sonny Payne interviewed Jack and listened to his music live on air for half an hour. The next day Jack played two very popular shows at the legendary blues venue The Hopson Commissary in Clarksdale, Mississippi USA.
Since returning from the USA experience, Jacks appearances have continued across the UK Midlands.
The next big event to look forward to is the semi-final of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk / Roots Musician of the Year which takes place on October 10th at the Civic Hall in Stratford upon Avon. Jack is one of the youngest participants in this exciting event.

news_text[8] = "The centre of Lincoln rocked on the 8th July!
After months of hard work and preparation the Grand Final of Music Showcase 2009 took place at the Lincoln Performing Arts Centre.
North Kesteven School featured 4 acts: 2 Fold, Dani & Jas, H E R and Sharna Mae Brown and each rose to the occasion. They were determined and focussed, good humoured and supportive and the Music Dept felt proud of them for their professionalism.
2 Fold, Jasmin and Laura Carleton, ended the first half of the programme with a polished version of Songbird. Both have been singing for a while; they practise every day and pay particular attention to their harmonies. Practice must make perfect as 2 Fold have been in every Showcase so far!
Dani & Jas, Danielle Parker and Jasmine Markham, are both Year 10 students and this was the first time they have ever entered Music Showcase. After being initially overwhelmed at reaching the final they have put a lot of time and effort into rehearsing their rendition of Hurt.
A spine-tingling Hallelujah was performed by H E R; Helen Francis, Emma Taylor and Rebecca Sims. Rebecca, Year 11, Helen and Emma, Year 13, were brought together by their passion for performing. Even though they were quoted as saying that rehearsing always made them break into hysterics their performance last night was nothing to laugh at! Their version of Hallelujah was truly heartfelt and mesmerising.
Finally, Year 8 Sharna Mae Brown walked on stage to end the show. Influenced by her Dad, Sharna Mae is a country singer and treated the audience to a rousing cover of Let It Rip by the Dixie Chicks. It was Sharna Maes first Showcase, encouraged by her friends to take part Sharna Mae is proud to have made it into the final.
Even though the Showcase is not billed as a competition; the prize for each of the finalists was the opportunity work with professional mentors to produce the evenings concert; the acts are judged. We are grateful to this years judges, Richard Jones, SSAT National Specialism Coordinator for Music & Performing Arts; Jennifer McKie, Senior Music Advisor for Lincolnshire and James Wickham who is a presenter on BBC Radio Lincolnshire, for making the time in their busy schedules. They were looking for a variety of factors: stage presence, interpretation of the material, the actual performance to name but a few. Taking all of these into account their winner was Emily Walsh who was presented with a Lily Allen Gold Disc which was kindly donated by EMI MSF. Emily, who in September is joining the North Hykeham Joint Sixth Form to study A Level Music, has taken part in Showcase once before and sees the opportunity as the perfect chance to gain confidence and experience.
The Music Showcase is a very important part of the N K School calendar for our students and their parents. Judging by the comments we receive it will clearly play an important part for many years to come, funding permitting! ";

news_text[9] = "Russian Boys Choir of Dubna
As part of the 4th Cornwall International Male Voice Choral Festival held between 29th April – 4th May, we were lucky enough to receive a visit from the Russian Boys Choir of Dubna on Thursday 30th April. The choir, who train at the only State run choral school in the Moscow region, are made up of around thirty five boys and young men aged 11 to 21. They sang a variety of Russian and European classical and sacred pieces, and also included some rousing Russian folk songs! They were conducted by Olga Mironova, the founder and artistic director of the Dubna choral school. The Russian boys gave a wonderful performance to Roseland students in Years 8 and 9 during the afternoon, and a group of key stage 2 boys from Tregony primary school were also in attendance. The Mevagissey Male Voice Choir, who hosted the Dubna choir for their stay in Cornwall, helped to organize this educational event and twenty members of the Mevagissey choir also sang to Roseland students as part of the afternoon programme. After the concert, another group of Roseland students had the rare chance to sing with the Dubna boys and Mevagissey choir, who all joined in with our weekly Roseland Voices after-school singing club. All three choirs had an enormous amount of fun learning first a Russian folk song and then some English rounds and pop songs, learning each line by call and response, and proving that music really is a universal language and uniting force! The Russian choir very much enjoyed their trip to Cornwall and went on to win the Boys and Youth Choirs category in the international competition, which was held at the Hall for Cornwall as part of the festival! Special thanks go to Mike Boyer, School Governor and Mevagissey Male Voice Choir member, for bringing us this exciting opportunity.
Informal Concert Evenings 2009
This term we held another successful series of informal music concerts featuring performances by students of our peripatetic music tutors. We were also delighted to be joined by a few pupils from some of our partner primary schools, including the Roseland Junior Guitar Ensemble, who certainly got a taste of some of the musical activities on offer at Roseland. The aim of these evenings is to provide an opportunity for students to perform their work in progress in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, among friends and family. This year we held three concerts, in slightly different groupings to last year. We held evenings for Woodwind and Percussion, Brass & Strings, and ended with Vocals and Electric Guitars. The varied programme ranged from classical to pop and rock, and there were even some memorable performances by Roseland staff! All three evenings were very well attended and hugely enjoyable as always.
Roseland Summer Variety Show
We held our highly successful Summer Variety Show on the evening of Wednesday 17th June. The programme featured a wide range of musical groups, including our Community Concert Band, Brass Ensemble, String Ensemble, Roseland Voices, lunchtime Singing Club, Community Choir, student rock band The Heard and various other soloists and ensembles. It was a great opportunity for community members and student groups to make music together, and both the student choirs and adult Community Choir joined forces with our Community Concert Band to end the first half with a rousing rendition of the classic rock ballad One Moment in Time! The show also included our GCSE Dancers who gave us a fantastic visual display. We would like to thank all the staff and students involved, and we also extend our thanks to all the parents and visitors to the college who collectively raised over £200 towards new lighting equipment for the hall.
Roseland Voices Performance At The Truro & Roseland Learning Community Awards
This year we provided the music for the annual Truro and Roseland Learning Community Awards Ceremony which took place at Truro Cathedral at 6.30pm on Thursday 25th June. Members of the Roseland Voices after-school singing clubs from both Roseland and Tregony primary school joined forces for a memorable choral performance, conducted by Roseland Voices Singing Leader Barry Hawken, and there was also an excellent oboe solo by Year 11 student Lizzie Bunday. All performances were very well received, and it was a fantastic opportunity for our students to perform at a prestigious event in the cathedral.
Lin Marsh Musical Theatre Workshop
On Friday 26th June we held a Musical Theatre Vocal Workshop for our Roseland Voices singers, funded by the Youth Music Vocalise! Programme. The workshop was aimed at the five Roseland Voices after-school singing clubs for 8 -12 year olds currently based at Roseland and four partner primary schools in Tregony, Veryan, Gerrans and St Mawes. Lin Marsh is a highly experienced Composer, Musical Director and Vocal Coach, and she is also one of the two Sing Up National Advocates currently working throughout the country, training teachers and running workshops. During the morning students developed their singing, movement and acting skills as they worked on a fantastic performance of four contrasting songs from various musicals, which included the Disney ballad Beauty and The Beast as well as the more upbeat Consider Yourself from Oliver. Lin was extremely charismatic and the workshop was a huge amount of fun for all those involved, with primary school and Roseland staff also playing an active role! As part of our Roseland Voices project, Lin Marsh stayed on in the afternoon to deliver an inspiring training session for teachers and music practitioners currently involved in running singing activities at various schools and organisations in Cornwall.
